Merry Christmas

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! WE LOVE YOU!!

Playing in Old Town San Diego

Beach Fun

Zaylee had a blast playing and rubbing her toes in the sand. Unfortunately, as do most kids, the sand went almost immediately to her mouth--once that happened all was lost with the playing in the sand. She started crying and even after getting fresh water to rinse it out, as soon as I took her back out by the water she would cry. Luckily for us after a couple of hours she forgot and would go back out to the beach with us.

The first picture was taken right off the rocks at the back of the house. The morning tide rises pretty high. The first day it kinda freaked me out because I couldn't believe how close it was to the house! It's really great to watch though!

One more picture

Per Alex's request, here is one more picture. We have to show her off....we love her!

1/2 Year Old today!!

Here I am 6 months old and doing great! I weigh 15.4 lbs (40-41 percentile), am 25.8 inches tall (54th percentile) and I have a small head (16.5 inches--36th percentile). =)

Zaylee had her doctor appointment on Monday and is doing really good. The doctor said she is healthy and normal and looking good. She is sleeping in her own crib now in her own room. She's been in her crib for 10 days now and is getting better. It started with a 2 1/2 hour screaming session before she fell asleep that first night but is down to 30 minutes or less--which is GREAT! She sleeps anywhere from 3 to 5 hours with the occasional 2 or 6 hour stint. But she still hates being in her crib. As soon as we put her in there and start to walk out of the room she's screaming!

She's standing up next to things now but we still have to be right next to her because her balance is still pretty bad. Spitting and blowing raspberries are a favorite thing to do these days and finds it to be a great way to entertain herself. She hates white grape juice and mashed chicken & chicken broth but loves sweet potatoes and green beans. Aunt Carolyn gave her ice cream which she did like but unfortunately, I am just mean and said no more til she's at least a year old! =)

Just Playing

The first picture, Zaylee was just sitting in her bouncy with a couple of different toys until she dropped them on the floor then she discovered the hanging toys on the seat. She kicked them around for awhile but then decided that they would be a lot more fun if she could grab them and stick them in her mouth. When she couldn't reach them she kept kicking and scooting herself down til she could grab them and then she would use her feet to push off the side of the bouncy trying to get the toys loose. Unfortunately for her she was not successful but it was hilarious for me to watch!
The second picture is self explanatory but just so you know, there wasn't food on the plate yet when we took the picture. Alex was getting ready to dish up his food when she grabbed the plate and started to attack! She loves it when we eat....we love the struggle! =)

Thanksgiving

To all who weren't there, we had a great Thanksgiving for Zaylee's first! We spent Thanksgiving day at Grandma Barlow's with Steph, Ryan, Sammy, Andrew, and Grandpa Barlow and then spent all of Friday with all of the Gubler clan. Zaylee loved being with her grandparents, aunts & uncles, and cousins. At first she didn't know what to think of all the people but by the end of the trip she was ready to be good and just play instead of cry when I walked out of the room.

I didn't get any pictures of her on Thanksgiving, but we were trying to get some Christmas pictures while we were there of all the kids and I took this one. I was trying to make her smile but I'm not good at that and running a camera so it's not centered good, but I still thought it was cute.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving as well!

Yummy Rice Cereal

She did it!! She had her cereal! It was hilarious! She had her own spoon so when I would put cereal in her mouth she would spit it out but then take her spoon and rub it all over her mouth and get it on there and then just suck and lick the spoon clean. I gave her a bit more and then she started making the "this is digusting! What are you feeding me?" face. It was great! I gave her a little water to wash it down and she loved playing with the cup and trying to drink out of it. If I ever figure out how to download videos from my video camera I will post some. These pictures were taken after and you don't get much of a view of how much ended up on her face and bib but I still thought they were cute.

5 Months Old

Okay, so as any proud mom would do, today Zaylee is 5 months so we get another post! (Sorry I've been slacking on it a bit--with new books coming out and work to get done I'm a bit behind...). She is growing as big as ever! Alex and I can't believe how much she has changed in just the last month. As you can obviously see, she can sit up on her own now! She started that just a few days ago. As for rolling over, she rolled over back to front one time but we have yet to see a repeat occasion on that one. She is going to try cereal today for the first time (if I ever get with it to try it) so depending on how that goes, I'll give you an update on that when it occurs. She likes to try to drink from cups--most of it ending up being poured down her clothes--and loves to TRY to eat whatever we are eating so I am hoping the cereal will go over well. I think most of all, like with the cups, she just likes having something in her hands that she can try to shove into her mouth! Just give her any sort of paper and you'll see what I am talking about!
As for growth, when we took her in to get her ear checked out at the doctors last week they said she weighed 14 pounds 15 ounces (she finally weighes more than Kurt, Jill, & Nathan's cat, Jake!). For those of you that didn't get to hear about the ear dilemma, we took her up to the U for student hearing tests on an infant and when they did one of the tests they said that there appeared to be fluid in her ears. She had been fussy for about a week and pulling on her ear so we took her into the doctor to make sure it wasn't infected. Luckily it wasn't but we did get to suffer with a miserable baby for another few days before she finally got over it. All is well now!
Other than that, all I can think of to add of note is that she has definitely becomes a momma's girl! If I'm not holding her or at least where she can see me, it's a disaster! And anyone who has heard Zaylee scream can imagine what a mad/sad girl can produce when she can't see her mom! =)

BYU Football details

Okay so the story behind the football game...our landlady works for Deseret First Credit Union (who is sponsoring the Duel between the Utes and BYU) so she gets pretty nice tickets (on the home team side on the 20 yard line 10 rows up) to the games and to the VIP catered tent. She was in a car accident a few weeks ago and had to have surgery on her knee so she is laid up in bed for the next little while and had some tickets to give away. We've been helping out with her kids while she had the surgery and while she's been in bed so she offered them to us. When we went we didn't think that we would be able to go down on the field without her there but they came and asked if we wanted to go and of course we said yes. Not long after we got down on the field though, they realized that they made a mistake and children under 16 are not supposed to be on the field so we didn't get to stay long but it was still a blast!

The picture with Zaylee's head in my hands was just funny. She was so exhausted but couldn't fall asleep because of all the noise so I had her on my lap and she was just playing with my hands and then all of a sudden just dropped her head into my hands and sat there. It was so funny. She would lift her head up at any big noise and then she would put it back down. I think the poor girl was just over stimulated and over tired.

One more funny thing...about 3/4 of the way through the game the band started playing "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree." Okay, I've never been to a BYU game before so I haven't seen it but it was hilarious. The crowd starting singing it and started doing the actions while the band was pretending to be popcorn popping. Only at a BYU football game....

The game was a ton of fun and we were so excited that we had the opportunity to go.

Toes

Okay, I know I just did a post but I was going through my pictures of her and thought this one was really cute so I should put it on for all to see. She has been attacking her toes now for a couple of weeks now--and when I say attacking, I mean it! =) She LOVES her toes. Everytime we change her diaper now it's a challenge to get her to let go of them long enough to get the diaper off and on. Oftentimes when she is being fussy all I have to do is lay her down and make it so her toes are accessible and she just has a blast with them! It's fun to watch her and hear her talk to them while she's playing....it's like she's got a new best friend. =)

Halloween

Well, it's not quite Halloween yet, but we've already celebrated! Last Saturday we went with Kasey, Levi, Saddie, and the kids to Kasey's ward trunk-or-treat party. It was a lot of fun but really cold! Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of all the kids together but I did get a couple of Zaylee in her mouse costume. She had a blast looking around at all the dressed up kids but by the end of the night she was pretty tired out!

Happy 4 Months!!

Of course you all knew it was coming! If there was a four month doctor appointment, there had to be a four month old picture following....well today is the day. She is offically four months old! Alex always harasses me about wanting her dressed everyday so today he voted she stay in pj's all day and he won--they're cute though so it wasn't much of a battle!

4 month old Dr. appointment

Zaylee had to visit the doctor today and she was such a good girl!! They didn't give me a growth chart so I am going off my memory. Her weight: 14.01 lbs (64th percentile). Her Height: 24.5 inches (63rd percentile). Head Circumference: 15 cm? (29th percentile). Dr. Hoggard said that she is looking really good and healthy. The dry skin behind her ear is eczema and to just put hydrocortisone on it and it should clear it up. Other than that, we can put lotions on it (he recommends 'for really dry skin' types) as long as we make sure it's dry first. He said that she has great head control and is really strong. He said that she will be up and going before we know it! He said that she still has a bit of an umbilical hernia but that it should go away.

As for her shots, she hated it! They had to do three shots this time because she got her tetanus shot as well. She looked up at me with a look of confusion and then just started screaming!!! Fortunately, this time she calmed down a bit quicker and just had big old crocodile tears on her cheeks when we went to set up her next appointment. I gave her some Tylenol and have been massaging her legs and she's been fine. She acts like they are a little sensitive but not too bad. She's sleeping now.

Everyone at the doctor's office LOVED her! The people in the waiting room, the office staff, the nurses, and even Dr. Hoggard. They all think she is absolutely adorable and one of the ladies even told me that I need to enter her into a baby contest! Funny huh! The secretary asked to hold her and took her back behind the desk where everyone jumped up to start pinching her cheeks and squeezing her chubby legs. She was the life of the party!

Well, we've finally returned from our 10 day vacation from St. George/LaVerkin! It was a great fall break! I've got some pictures I'm going to post so look forward to them! It might take me a day or so to do it cuz I've got to get settled back in before I play but I'll get'em done! =)

More Pics

Steph requested more pics so here you go! Alex was behind the camera...you can see how much she loves her dad!

Goopy Eye

Well, Zaylee has her first infection. She's had a little bit of a goopy eye for about a month now so I finally called the doctor. He said it sounds like a clogged tear duct with a little bit of an infection. So she has a prescription antibiotic that we get to put in her eye four times a day. I was worried about putting it in but she actually is pretty good about it. The first time I tried to put it in she was a little upset but I just opened the door so she could hear/look at the cars and she was fine. Now she just sits there looking at me like "what the heck are you doing to me" and then trys to rub it a bit afterwards, but luckily, no tears!

Watching cars

Watching cars is one of Zaylee's favorite passtimes. Because it's getting a little chilly out we wrapped her in a blanket and sat in the front doorway but she was frustrated that she couldn't get to her fingers--she loves munching her fingers!

My day....

I absolutely love being a mother, but let me tell you...days like this wear me pretty thin! She's an adorable baby girl but the next picture is definitely easier on the ears and the mind! =)
