Thanksgiving

To all who weren't there, we had a great Thanksgiving for Zaylee's first! We spent Thanksgiving day at Grandma Barlow's with Steph, Ryan, Sammy, Andrew, and Grandpa Barlow and then spent all of Friday with all of the Gubler clan. Zaylee loved being with her grandparents, aunts & uncles, and cousins. At first she didn't know what to think of all the people but by the end of the trip she was ready to be good and just play instead of cry when I walked out of the room.

I didn't get any pictures of her on Thanksgiving, but we were trying to get some Christmas pictures while we were there of all the kids and I took this one. I was trying to make her smile but I'm not good at that and running a camera so it's not centered good, but I still thought it was cute.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving as well!

Yummy Rice Cereal

She did it!! She had her cereal! It was hilarious! She had her own spoon so when I would put cereal in her mouth she would spit it out but then take her spoon and rub it all over her mouth and get it on there and then just suck and lick the spoon clean. I gave her a bit more and then she started making the "this is digusting! What are you feeding me?" face. It was great! I gave her a little water to wash it down and she loved playing with the cup and trying to drink out of it. If I ever figure out how to download videos from my video camera I will post some. These pictures were taken after and you don't get much of a view of how much ended up on her face and bib but I still thought they were cute.

5 Months Old

Okay, so as any proud mom would do, today Zaylee is 5 months so we get another post! (Sorry I've been slacking on it a bit--with new books coming out and work to get done I'm a bit behind...). She is growing as big as ever! Alex and I can't believe how much she has changed in just the last month. As you can obviously see, she can sit up on her own now! She started that just a few days ago. As for rolling over, she rolled over back to front one time but we have yet to see a repeat occasion on that one. She is going to try cereal today for the first time (if I ever get with it to try it) so depending on how that goes, I'll give you an update on that when it occurs. She likes to try to drink from cups--most of it ending up being poured down her clothes--and loves to TRY to eat whatever we are eating so I am hoping the cereal will go over well. I think most of all, like with the cups, she just likes having something in her hands that she can try to shove into her mouth! Just give her any sort of paper and you'll see what I am talking about!
As for growth, when we took her in to get her ear checked out at the doctors last week they said she weighed 14 pounds 15 ounces (she finally weighes more than Kurt, Jill, & Nathan's cat, Jake!). For those of you that didn't get to hear about the ear dilemma, we took her up to the U for student hearing tests on an infant and when they did one of the tests they said that there appeared to be fluid in her ears. She had been fussy for about a week and pulling on her ear so we took her into the doctor to make sure it wasn't infected. Luckily it wasn't but we did get to suffer with a miserable baby for another few days before she finally got over it. All is well now!
Other than that, all I can think of to add of note is that she has definitely becomes a momma's girl! If I'm not holding her or at least where she can see me, it's a disaster! And anyone who has heard Zaylee scream can imagine what a mad/sad girl can produce when she can't see her mom! =)

BYU Football details

Okay so the story behind the football game...our landlady works for Deseret First Credit Union (who is sponsoring the Duel between the Utes and BYU) so she gets pretty nice tickets (on the home team side on the 20 yard line 10 rows up) to the games and to the VIP catered tent. She was in a car accident a few weeks ago and had to have surgery on her knee so she is laid up in bed for the next little while and had some tickets to give away. We've been helping out with her kids while she had the surgery and while she's been in bed so she offered them to us. When we went we didn't think that we would be able to go down on the field without her there but they came and asked if we wanted to go and of course we said yes. Not long after we got down on the field though, they realized that they made a mistake and children under 16 are not supposed to be on the field so we didn't get to stay long but it was still a blast!

The picture with Zaylee's head in my hands was just funny. She was so exhausted but couldn't fall asleep because of all the noise so I had her on my lap and she was just playing with my hands and then all of a sudden just dropped her head into my hands and sat there. It was so funny. She would lift her head up at any big noise and then she would put it back down. I think the poor girl was just over stimulated and over tired.

One more funny thing...about 3/4 of the way through the game the band started playing "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree." Okay, I've never been to a BYU game before so I haven't seen it but it was hilarious. The crowd starting singing it and started doing the actions while the band was pretending to be popcorn popping. Only at a BYU football game....

The game was a ton of fun and we were so excited that we had the opportunity to go.
